Sevim Dagdelen is a German-Turkish politician. She was born on September 4th, 1975 in Bingol, Turkey. Dagdelen moved with her family to Germany at a young age and grew up in Gelsenkirchen. She studied political science, cultural anthropology and modern history at the Ruhr University Bochum.
Dagdelen is a member of the Left Party in Germany and has been a member of the Bundestag (German parliament) since 2005, representing the Gelsenkirchen constituency. She is known for her outspoken criticism of German foreign policy and her advocacy for human rights, particularly in Turkey. Dagdelen has been a vocal opponent of Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan and has been critical of the German government's close relationship with him.
Dagdelen has served as the spokeswoman for foreign policy of the Left Party parliamentary group since 2013. She also serves on several committees, including the Foreign Affairs Committee and the Committee on Cultural and Media Affairs. Dagdelen is an advocate for disarmament, conflict resolution, and progressive social policies.
